May 31, 2026 - June 6, 2026 Week in Review
Hi.
A lot of last week was spent focusing on how to make eleventy work with my website β and now it (mostly) does, I just need to figure out how I can actually publish it to my website, but if I got eleventy working in the first place I think that's a good sign. In general, I was focused on building my website from the ground up, and I think it looks a lot better than before.
I also drew a lot, (at least) once every day. I definitely believe that my art is improving, and quite quickly too.
On Wednesday, I got a new sketchbook. I haven't owned a sketchbook in a while, and to be honest, I throw away sketchbooks as soon as I'm done with them. I mostly draw on my iPad or PC nowadays, but I don't want to lose the art of traditional drawing, so I decided to pick up a new one. I also bought a bag so I could display some of my plushies in it.
On Friday, I mailed a poster and some stickers to my friend, who's supposed to receive them on Tuesday, so that's exciting! I hope she likes it. Also on Friday, I got a package which included two cute buttons that I ordered a while ago, and I've already put them on my bag. C: However, my other package is still stuck in transit... it's been at least 12 days, where are you!? Perhaps it just stopped tracking, though.
On both Wednesday and Friday, I visited my mom at her store. Her store is a couple of minutes away from our house (via driving), so it's really easy to get there. I still hate driving though, I'm not gonna lie. I should definitely visit more often, because both times were a lot of fun.
It wasn't last week, but it was around midnight of today (June 7, 2026) where I did the Wordle and surprisingly got it in 2/6..!?!? Today's word is usually the second word that I guess if my first one fails me... so I was really surprised. I just wanted to include that here. I'm really passionate about Wordle.
Really, though, I am most happy about figuring out how eleventy works; I thought I'd never do it, it seemed literally impossible, but I guess you should never say "impossible" because I figured it out!
My main goal for this week is to get v2 of my website up and running. I also want to continue re-recording my UTAU, and perhaps get through my Vocaloid "Songs to Listen to" playlist. And, of course, I'd like to continue drawing as much as possible. And when this week has concluded, I want to write a Week in Review for that as well.
Truthfully, I'm a writer at heart. I love drawing, of course I do, because I wouldn't waste my time doing something I don't like, but I've always been a writer; ever since I could pick up a pencil. As a kid who didn't have many friends growing up, I mostly read instead of talking to people. I often got in trouble for reading instead of doing work in class. When I was 9, I discovered the internet and began posting my works (fanfiction) online, where my writing has lived ever since.
I started drawing around 10 years old when I saw this girl in my class was better at me than drawing (as I could not draw), and I didn't like her that much so I vowed to become better at drawing than her. We ended up becoming friends, but then we went to different middle schools, and we almost went to the same high school but I was pulled out two days in since I was moving to a different town.
So, really, I was born as a writer but later became an artist. It's good to be able to do both.
On the internet, it seems like writing is a lot less appreciated than art. Writing is a form of art, but I mean like visual arts often get more attention. It's a lot easier to "consume" art: you only have to stare at it for a second or two. Writing is different. Even the shortest stories need to have at least five minutes of your attention. In the age of TikTok and Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts and self-inflicted ADHD symptoms, people do not have enough time for writing. Well, this isn't a recent problem; I've thought this for a while.
Not going to lie, I find writing (good) way harder than drawing (good). Writing is an essential part of communication, and everyone is taught how to read and write in school. Anyone who can pick up a pencil or type on a keyboard is able to write. Drawing, however, is not a part of language or communication, so it's not a skill that's imbued on you unless you're purposefully pushing yourself to draw.
Essentially, what I'm trying to say is any old hack can type away at their keyboard and say they wrote something, but it's a lot harder to scribble on a piece of paper and say you drew something. Unless you're Jackson Pollock, then it's fine. (Though, he was dripping stuff onto canvases, not scribbling.)
What I'm not trying to say is that this is a bad thing. I think people should keep creating "bad" art and "bad" writing. The point of art isn't for it to be good, it's to have fun. And AI can't have fun, you know!?
Thanks for reading. I kind of went off topic a little bit, there, but it's fine. See you all next week.
